The Life Skills Drumming program uses rhythm to help at-risk youths cope with emotions and improve self-esteem. Teens learn to maintain control over anger and impulsive behavior, in order to connect and communicate with others, while creating a vision of a more positive life.

Program Goals

  • Youths learn impulse control and anger management
  • Youths address issues of fear and abandonment
  • Youths discover joy and purpose
  • Youths become less guarded and communicate openly with facility counselors
  • Youths discover and connect with newly uncovered emotions

Program Specifics

  • Biweekly workshops for 4 weeks (Elementary school), 5 weeks (Middle school), or 6 weeks (High School), up to 15 participants
  • Program debriefing and reflection session
  • Drums are provided for each workshop participant.
