The Rhythm of Discovery Program guides addicts to discover and confront the emotions that drive their addictions while they learn to master the connection between mind and body. Drumming offers a way to safely express negative feelings and transform them into positive experiences.

Program Goals

  • Clients discover and connect to their newly uncovered emotions
  • Clients become aware of negative patterns in their lives and begin to replace them with positive alternatives
  • Clients discover and "own" their "individual rhythms," leading to self-awareness

Program Specifics

  • Weekly workshops
  • Program debriefing and reflection session
  • Drums are provided for each workshop participant

Rhythm of Discovery Training

Therapists

The Rhythm of Discovery Training Program is designed for licensed therapists and social workers. The training teaches techniques that will enable the therapist to fully utilize this form of therapy as well providing exercises and an experiential drum journey. This changes therapy from an observational profession to an experiential profession creating what we refer to as ‘therapeutic intimacy’.

Training Specifics

  • Four sessions
  • Designed to take place over a weekend starting on a Friday night and continuing through the weekend.
  • Second part of training will take place approximately three weeks later after therapists have had the opportunity to conduct 15 sessions using the Rhythm of Discovery method.
  • Each person will receive an instructional DVD and a Certificate of Completion.

Friday Night Session – 3.5 hours
Objectives

  • Learning how drumming works with psychology to affect healing
  • Experiential Drum Journey
  • Discussion of journey – individual experience, group experience
  • Connecting the conscious to the unconscious

Saturday Session – 8.5 hours
Objectives

  • Experience the Trust exercise
  • Understanding the psychology of the whole body
  • Learning about the relationship between the conscious and unconscious of each part of the body
  • Learning about the psychology held in each part of the body
  • Learning to work with energy produced through the drumming
  • Learning how to use the drum to track inside the body
  • Learning how to use the drum to direct energy
  • Learning to use the drum to connect the conscious and conscious
  • Learning to use the drum to break apart unhealthy relationships and to unite healthy ones
  • Learning how to interpret drumming responses and to hold the energy of the responses

Sunday Session – 7.5 hours
Objectives

  • Experience the Trust exercise
  • Learning how to open up your voice
  • Learning about Toning (vocal technique) and how to use it
  • Learning how to work with your voice in relation to the drumming
  • Learning how to travel into trust in the body using your voice and drumming
  • Practice working each part of the body with a partner
  • Question and answer

THREE WEEKS LATER

Saturday-Session – 8 hours
Objectives

  • Trust Exercise
  • Learning how to integrate the psychology and energy of two parts of the body
  • Learning how to integrate all the different parts of the body into one whole
  • Teaming up and working with the integration
  • Question and answer
