I run a music program for incarcerated youth at Camp Karl Holton, a detention camp in Los Angeles County at which Steven Angel conducted a drum therapy workshop. Many of the kids in my program suffer from attention deficit and emotional problems, so drum therapy is a very appropriate activity for them to participate in. Needless to say, they are not always the most attentive audience.

That was not the case this evening, however. The kids really took to Steven’s program. It was great for me to see the smiles on their faces as they played the drums together and each took turns taking solos. I was pleased to watch them close their eyes and concentrate as Steven took them through visualization exercises to help them deal with their anger. All in all, it was an extremely positive experience for everyone involved. I recommend Steven most highly for any therapy work of this sort and hope he will be coming back to Camp Karl Holton in the near future.
