Participation in the Reading and Rhythm program has led to an increase in test scores in reading fluency. This program (held during or after school) uses rhythm to increase fluency (number of words read per minute). Students use rhythm as a way to move through words. They are inspired to read when they hear and feel the words. A stronger connection between reader, story and teacher is created.
High school students at Compton College (LACOE sponsored program with students on probation) met twice a week, one hour per session for six weeks. The following chart shows the significant results achieved.
